Why We Added Black Beans and Biotin to a Daily Protein Shake

Our Black Bean Plant Protein is built around “black foods” and biotin—two things many of our customers were already interested in for overall vitality, hair, and skin.

Black foods: more than just a trend
The Black Bean flavor starts with our usual grain-based profile and layers in three Korean black foods: black soybeans (seoritae), black rice, and black sesame. Together they make up 38% of the product, giving it a naturally nutty, roasted flavor reminiscent of traditional roasted bean powder.

What these ingredients share is a high content of anthocyanins—the pigments that give them their deep color. Anthocyanins are known for their antioxidant properties, helping to protect cells from oxidative stress as we age. Black foods are also naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds linked to healthy blood lipids, blood sugar balance, skin elasticity, and hair health.

Black soybeans in particular are notably high in protein—around 40%—making them an excellent partner for a daily protein drink.

Why biotin?
Biotin (vitamin B7) supports energy metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and is involved in the formation of keratin, the structural protein in hair, nails, and skin. Deficiency can show up as brittle nails or hair that feels weaker than usual.

Many people can meet their needs through eggs, legumes, nuts, and mushrooms. But if you are dieting, skipping meals, or simply too busy to eat balanced meals regularly, an additional source can be helpful.

In Black Bean, we use French-origin biotin at a level that provides 3,000% of the Korean daily recommended intake per serving (900 μg). Because biotin is water-soluble, excess amounts are excreted rather than stored. Our goal is convenience: one serving a day covers both high-quality protein and a meaningful amount of biotin in a single routine.

Smart combinations inside Black Bean
Biotin + Protein (including black soybeans):
Protein provides the amino acids that build tissues; biotin helps your body use those amino acids efficiently.

Biotin + Black Soybeans:
Both are often chosen by people focused on hair and skin. Combining them in one product supports practical, daily intake.

Biotin + Pantothenic Acid (B5):
We include pantothenic acid at the same ratio as biotin. When one of these B-vitamins is heavily emphasized alone, it may influence the other’s absorption. Formulating them together in balanced amounts helps avoid that imbalance.

Black Bean was designed with people in mind who are recovering after dieting or childbirth, or who simply want a tasty, plant-based shake that also supports their appearance and energy. If you have been separately taking biotin and protein, this flavor may simplify your routine.
